Chicago 18 notes and bibliography guide
The notes system pairs a footnote or endnote with a bibliography entry. This generator supplies a full first note for each saved source.
Choose the correct Chicago system
Use Chicago Notes when your assignment asks for footnotes. Choose Chicago Author–date when it asks for parenthetical author and year citations. The two systems create different output.
Add notes to your paper
Copy the full note and insert it using your word processor’s footnote or endnote feature. The generator does not insert note markers into your paper. Subsequent notes to the same source may need a shortened form.
Prepare the bibliography
Entries are alphabetically sorted. Enter the exact quoted page for a note and the entire article’s page range separately. Chicago 18 generally does not require a publication city for modern books. Confirm spacing and any local requirements before submission.
