Chicago 18 author–date guide
Chicago author–date uses author and year citations alongside an alphabetical reference list.
Source information
Enter full author names, publication date, title and the relevant journal or publisher. Add volume, issue and page range for journal articles. A DOI is useful for locating an online article.
Specific passages
Passage location generates the passage locator in the parenthetical citation. Leave it blank when citing the whole work.
No publication date
Leave the date empty when a source has no date. For an undated webpage, also enter the date you accessed it. Check that a website’s copyright year is actually the date of the page you are citing.
