Vancouver citation guide
Vancouver is a numbered referencing system used in biomedical writing. This tool uses the bundled Citation.js Vancouver CSL style.
Reference numbers
Add sources in first-citation order. Move sources up or down to revise that order. When you cite the same source again, reuse its original number.
Journal abbreviations
Check whether the journal or institution requires an NLM abbreviation. Enter the abbreviation in the journal-name field where needed. Abbreviations are not looked up automatically.
Local variations
Publishers may use brackets, parentheses or superscripts for the in-text number. This style uses parentheses. Confirm the required variant, author truncation and punctuation before submitting.
